The Radiation Protection and Shielding Division
of the American Nuclear Society is concerned with radiation protection and
shielding aspects of nuclear science and technology -- including interaction
of nuclear radiation with materials and biological systems, instruments and
techniques for the measurement of nuclear radiation fields, and radiation
shield design and evaluation.
Our recent RPSD 2010 topical meeting in Las Vegas, NV (18-23 Apr 2010) was a great success and
we are already looking towards ICRS 12 and RPSD 2012 in Nara, Japan.
Congratulations to Dr. Nicholas Tsoulfanidis for receiving the Rockwell Award for lifetime achievement!
The award for a Lifetime Achievement, or Rockwell Award, is based on long-term contribution in research, development of technology, or education in radiation measurement, protection, shielding, and dosimetry.
In the case of Dr. Tsoulfanidis, he's written a standard textbook used in nuclear engineering courses on radiation measurement entitled, "Measurement and Detection of Radiation", he's
served as a former chair of the RPSD, he is a fellow of the ANS, has published numerous peer reviewed journal articles and is editor in chief of the ANS journal Nuclear Technology.
Congratulations, Dr. Tsoulfanidis.
